Applications

Aerospace

Dry Ice Blasting offers a non-abrasive cleaning solution that protects the surfaces of tooled areas and complex geometrics while providing faster cleaning than traditional methods. This method can be used to safely remove a variety of foreign contaminants including teflon tapes, silicons, epoxies, carbon, graphite, etc.. It can also be used as a paint preparation medium or to maintain the equipment without the associated concerns of other cleaning methods and their interactions with electrical components.

Asphalt / Bitumen Removal

Bitumen and Tar can be difficult to remove and clean, particularily in hot weather or in hard to reach areas. Dry Ice blasting is a non-corrosive industrial cleaning method that cools the bitumen and tar on contact, making it easier to lift off and remove leaving the original substrate undamaged.

Automotive

Using Dry Ice Blasting system the automotive industry has been able to significantly cut down the costs associated with mold buildup cleaning. During preventative or restorative maintenance work you can easily remove built up sludges, greases, sealants and weld slag. The entire process is both fast in execution and reduces post-cleanup dramatically by not leaving residues or residual cleaning material behind for disposal.

Contract Cleaning

Increase profits and reduce time investment sanding , scraping or scrubbing by using Dry Ice Blasting for your cleaning applications. With no secondary waste or residual materials left behind additional clean up after application is virtually non-existent.

Composite Tool Cleaning

By using recycled CO2 that are accelerated through pressure and nozzles mold removal from delicate tooling surfaces becomes fast, easy, and efficient.

Electric Motors

Dry Ice Blasting is an ideal cleaning solution for removing contaminants and other build up on stationary or rotating electrical equipment. Through a non-conductive process the equipment can be restored safely and efficiently with no additional waste cleanup or drying times and immediately restores equipment to optimal operating conditions.

Fire Restoration

Fire damage – specifically soot and smoke damage – can severely hinder the reuse of existing materials including metal, brick, concrete and wood. Not only is this damage unsightly but it can also retain odors that are likely to be unacceptable to the client. Dry Ice Blasting can quickly and efficiently reduce or eliminate the odors of fire, smoke and water damage without extensive applications of sanding, scraping or wire brushing. The process can reach into the tightest spaces of trusses, around nails, wiring and all plumbing without cause damage to the surface integrity of the materials at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods.

Food and Beverage

Food preparation equipment and facilities quickly build up with grease, waxes, proteins, seasons, carbon residue and more in the process of providing meals and services. This build up quickly reduces the operating life of the equipment and reduces their efficiency. Dry Ice Blasting is a non-abrasive, non-conductive, environmentally responsible cleaning method that leaves virtually no residue behind and because dry ice is food grade quality it will decontaminate surfaces of bacterias including Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria while eliminating cross contamination of allergens and removes protein residues.

General Maintenance

The buildup of oils, soot, dirt, grease and other contaminants in production facilities cause the improper functioning of equipment and leads to unsafe working conditions. Not only does effective cleaning extend the life of electric motors it will also increase the efficiency of the equipment by reducing or eliminating costly repair, replacement or rental programs. Shut downs of production equipment are often delayed and cleaning does not happen as often as it should – Dry Ice Blasting is quick, safe, and non-toxic and can be applied on-line and without requiring cool-down. The process is non-conductive, non-abrasive and does not use water or other liquids.

Historic Restoration

Dry Ice Blasting’s non-abrasive method allows for the restoration of materials and objects without the use of harsh solvents or chemicals that could jeopardize the integrity of the items beneath. Other cleaning methods can leave into stone or scratch and scar the surface being cleaned. Not only is the method safe but it is also environmentally safe and can reach into the tightest of spaces.

Medical Device Manufacturing

Dry Ice Blasting is ideal for the extension of molds by eliminating the need to use harsh chemicals or abrasives. This method can easily deburr or deflash medical products and easily removes chemical residues. Dry Ice Blasting is approved by the EPA, FDA, and USDA as acceptable material cleaning methods.

Mold Remediation

Mold removal is a time consuming process involving sanding and scraping to remove staining and mold that is embedded in the wood. These methods are labor intensive and fraught with challenges to reach the smallest spaces and crevasses where mold can grow. Chemical cleanings and soda blasting not only reduce visibility during the process of cleaning but require extensive cleanup afterwards. Dry Ice Blasting is fast, efficient, can reach the tightest of areas with full penetration and can completely remove mold spores directly from the wood with no additional cleanup afterwards.

Packaging

Typical packaging applications utilize rollers to apply printing with a wax or clay based graphic to the packaging materials. These items are applied via these rollers and build up rapidly and steadily occurs resulting in time consuming shutdowns for manual cleaning of the rollers using solvents and brushes after disassembling the machine. Dry Ice Blasting allows for cleaning of these conveyors without disassembly with no residual leftovers and thus reducing down time from traditional cleaning methods.

Plastics

The build-up of mold release or resin off-gases can generate a number of product issues from knock outs to inferior product quality and possibly damage to the tools themselves. Flash, burn and short shots on the product caused by clogged vents also create their own unique challenges. Traditional cleaning methods are tedious, time consuming and ineffective manual processes requiring chemicals and hand tools. Dry Ice Blasting is a non-abrasive method with no residual presence, can be applied in a fraction of the time and improves the number of cycles between preventative maintenance application. Molds can be cleaned at operating temperature and in-place without water, chemicals or creation of secondary waste.

Printing

High scrap rates and alignment issues caused by the build-up of ink and grease on printing machinery can be a thing of the past with Dry Ice Blasting. With a fraction of the time involved – sometimes 10% of the previous amount – Dry Ice Blasting can clean the machinery without lengthy disruptions to production. Many of the direct and indirect costs of scraping and chemical cleanings agents used in the cleaning of the presses are removed through this cleaning method.

Rubber

Mold fouling is a major concern of rubber molders and the build-up of cured material and mold release agents leads to excessive flash or blemishes on finished parts. Traditional cleaning methods include manual scraping or glass bead blasting are time consuming, ineffective and damaging to the molds with obvious high labor and material costs. Dry Ice Blasting allows for in-place cleaning with associated disassembly or cool down.

Textiles

Remove lint, glue and other build-up easily and quickly with Dry Ice Blasting. Without disassembly or damage to the equipment these build-ups can be removed quickly and efficiently. Through the use of CO2 particles and kinetic impact the bond between the contaminant and the substrate is easily broken and the build-up removed. The nature of CO2 particles makes them softer compared to other blast media to allow for a gentle but aggressive cleaning of the equipment and is non-abrasive to sensitive components such as sensors and wiring.
